  • Miasm : psora, sycosis 
  • Temperament : melancholic, hypochondriacal
  • Diathesis : scrofulous 
  • Thermal : chilly 

Sphere of action

  • motor nervous system, mucus membrane especially of intestine and vagina, skin.



Guiding symptoms + keynotes

  1. Dryness and burning is prevalent throughout the drug. 
  2. Dryness : of mucus membrane causes inactivity of rectum. 
  3. Burning : with inflammation and itching of eye, female genitals and anus. 
  4. Which leads to obstinate constipation, pt has no desire for stool for days together. 
  5. Diarrhoea when pt urinates. 
  6. Intense craving for indigestible things (cal.c., cina).
  7. All irritable things - salt, wine, vinegar, paper etc. Immediately produce cough.

Mind 

  • Time passes too slowly (arg.nit.)
  • Hasty and hurry leads to mistakes in writing and speaking. 
  • Suicidal tendency while seeing knife or blood.

Head

  • Throbbing headache (bella). With constipation. 
  • Burning, stitching pain with vertigo. 
  • Vertigo with nausea.
  • Inability to walk except with open eye. 

Mouth

  • Bad odor from mouth.

Stomach

  • Cravings : for indigestible things (cina,cal.c.).
  • Heartburn. 
  • Aversion : meat (cal.p.-smoked). 
  • Disagree : potatoes.
  • Feels constriction of oesophagus. 

Stool

  • Dryness of mucus membrane of GIT is the main cause of whole GI trouble (bry.). 
  • Consistency : dry, hard, knotty (bry.). 
  • Inactivity of rectum. 
  • No desire for stool, even after days together.
  • Even a soft stool requires great strain. 
  • Itching and burning of anus(sulp.)

Urine 

  • Paralysis of bladder. 
  • Great strain to urinate. 

Female

  • Menses : too early. 
  • Scanty and pale.
  • Followed by great exhaustion. 
  • Leucorrhoea : acrid, profuse, transparent, ropy. 
  • Leucorrhoea is so much profuse that it runs down to the heels. 
  • Worse during day time and after menses.
  • Relieved by washing with cold water. 

Skin

  • Dry, with itching and burning. 
  • Must scratch until it bleed (sulp.). 
  • Brittle skin of fingers along with nails (graph.). 

Modalities

  • Aggravation : potato, cold air, new moon, full moon. 
  • Amelioration : mild summer weather, warm drinks, while eating. 

Relation 

  • Complementary to : Bryonia 
  • Follows : Bryonia
  • (ailment of pathogenesis of bryonia and alumina are same - dryness, so that they have a great relationship with eachother) 
  • (At the same time alumina acts well in child while Bryonia acts well in any age group)
