Introduction 

  • Gelsemium is said to be the king of polio. 
  • Gelsemium is an acute fever medicine, it is indicated in any and every type of fever - intermittent fever. 

Guiding symptoms + keynotes 

  1. A/F : fear, fright, exciting news, sun, heat or cold. 
  2. Dull : dullness of mental faculties, pains, vision and spirit. 
  3. Dizziness : as if intoxicated, blurred vision, double vision. 
  4. Drowsiness : during heat of fever.
  5. Dazed : dazed condition of mind, besotted. 
  6. Dimness : of vision with diplopia. 
  7. Depression : of vitality, great prostration and weakness. Nervous exhaustion. 
  8. Dread : of falling, of death. 
  9. Drooping : of eyelids (ars.).
  10. Doddering / Tremor : generalised, with great prostration and weakness. 
  11. Headache is relieved by profuse urination (sili.).
  12. Head and limbs feel heavy. 
  13. Thirstlessness is very well marked. 

Mind

  • Anticipatory anxiety while preparing for public meeting, church or to meet an engagement, brings on diarrhea.
  • Nervous dread of appearing in public (arg.nit.).
  • Desire to be quiet, to be let alone. Does not wish to speak or have any one near her, even if the person is silent (ign.)

Head

  • Two types of headache. One is due to heat of sun and the another is a nervous headache.
  • Location : begining in the cervical spine, pain extend over the head, causing a bursting sensation in forehead and eye. 
  • Sensation : bursting type of pain, feels dull and heavy, Along with the eyes. 
  • Sensation of a band around the head (sulp.). 
  • Dimness of vision before headache.
  • Headache is relieved by profuse urination (sili.).

Eye

  • Drooping of eyelids (ars.). 
  • Great heaviness of the eyelids, cannot keep them open. 
  • Dim and smoky vision. 
  • Orbital neuralgia with double vision. 

Respiratory 

  • Great prostration, oppression about chest. 
  • Dry cough with congestion in chest, which can be bring out by gels. 
  • Aphonia, acute bronchitis. 
  • Spasmodic affections of lungs and diaphragm.
  • It can be used in any kind of influenza to cure as well as for the prevention. 


Heart

  • Sensation as if its necessary to keep in motion, or else heart's action would cease. 

Diarrhoea 

  • A/F : fear, fright, anxiety, emotion excitement. 
  • Character : painless and involuntary due to partial paralysis of rectum or sphincter ani.

Extremities / paralysis 

  • Lack of muscular co-ordination, Muscles do not obey the will.
  • Complete relaxation and prostration of whole the muscular system, along with the penis - motor paralysis.
  • Cramps in muscles of forearm - writer's cramp. 
  • Excessive trembling with weaknesses of all extremities. 
  • "Trembling" is the keyword for the Gelsemium. 

Fever

  • Chill without thirst.
  • Especially along the spine, running up and down the back.
  • Indicated in Intermittent and remittent fever.
  • Along with heaviness of head and extremities. 
  • Dullness dizziness, drowsiness runs throughout the drug also with the fever. 

Modalities 

  • Aggravation : damp weather, fog, sun, emotional excitement, before thunderstorm.
  • Amelioration : profuse urination, continued motion, compression, alcoholic stimulants. 

Relations

  • Antidotes : china, coffee, dig. 

Extras

  • That is the way the Bell. and Acon. cases come on, but Gelsemium complaints do not come from, such causes nor appear that way. Its complaints are more insidious and come on with a degree of slowness. 
  • A Gels. cold develops as symptoms several days after the exposure, while the Acon. cold comes on a few hours after exposure. 
  • The Aconite child exposed during the day in dry, cold weather will have croup before midnight. But in the South diseases are very slow. Like the people themselves, their organs are very slow, and their reaction is slow.
