Pathogenesis 

  • Lachesis disorganises and decomposes the blood. 
  • Makes it more fluid and non-coagulable, (in other words we can say that it is a homoeopath's aspirin! - this is quoted just to make it easy to remember). 
  • It also produces haemorrhage as it reduces coagulation property of blood. 

Constitution 

  • Better adapted to thin, emaciated person than to fleshy persons, to those who have been changed, both mentally and physically by their illness. 

Guiding symptoms +keynotes 

  1. A/F : long lasting grief, jealousy, disappointment of love, fright (nat.mur., ign., aur.met.). 
  2. Lachesis sleeps into aggravation and has aggravation from sleep. 
  3. Great sensitiveness to touch all over the body, wants everything loose (apis.).
  4. Woman who have not recovered from the change of life, "have never felt well since that time". Here the pt refers the period of menopause. 
  5. Sensation of a ball rolling in the bladder. 
  6. Blue or purple color of skin and face in every trouble. 
  7. Congestion in head leads to headache (bell.). 
  8. Tongue : black, trembling leads to difficulty in protrusion.
  9. Short and scanty menstruation.
  10. Feels constriction all over the body, mainly at all orifices, such as throat, anus etc. 
  11. Wants to be fanned, but slowly and at a distance.

Mind

  • A/F : same as above. 
  • Great loquacity, wants to talk all the time but jumps from one idea to the another.
  • One word often leads into another story. 
  • Dreams : of snakes, death of his own funeral.
  • All the symptoms worse from sleeping. 
  • Unhappy, distressed, anxious < in morning waking.

Head

  • Location : from left vertex to right, along with the root of nose. 
  • Sensation : as if the skull would burst. 
  • Type of headache : congestive (bella.). 
  • Aggravation : sun, movement, sleep. 
  • Amelioration : menstrual flow. 

Throat

  • Sore throat with tonsillitis, quinsy.
  • Begining from the left and extending to right side. 
  • Dark purplish appearance of the tonsils. 
  • Liquids are more painful than solids when solids when swallowing (bell., bry., ign.). 
  • Aggravation : hot drink, sleep. 

Heart

  • Constricted feeling, causes palpitation. 
  • Irregular beats with blueness of the body - cyanosis. 

Mouth

  • Tooth ache, pain extends to ears. 
  • Pain in facial bones, also in trigeminal nerves. 

Stool

  • Constipation, anus feels tight, as if nothing could go through it. 
  • Stool : offensive along with haemorrhage from bowels. 

Female

  • Menses : regular in time. 
  • Characteristics : short and scanty menstruation with dark watery blood. 
  • All the suffering of Lachesis is usually relieved by the menstruation. 
  • Climacteric trouble / related to menopause. 
  • Pain and inflammation of left ovary. 

Extremities 

  • Sciatica, right sided, better by lying down. 

Haemorrhage 

  • Character of blood : dark, watery, offensive and non-coagulable. 
  • Small wounds bleed profusely. 
  • Lachesis can cure haemorrhage, as well as can also produce haemorrhage by direct action on the blood. 

Fever

  • Periodic return of fever especially in the spring, after suppression by quinine on the previous autumn. 
  • Indicated in typhoid or typhus. 
  • Falling of lower jaw. 
  • Trembling of the black tongue with difficulty in protrusion. 

Modalities 

  • Aggravation : after sleep, sun, spring, alcohol, acids, quinine. 
  • Amelioration : on appearance of discharge such as menstruation, hot application.
