  • Miasm : tri-miasmatic 
  • Temperament : Very irritable and bilious
  • Diathesis : Neuro-sycotic
  • Thermal : Hot

Introduction 

  • Was used extensively for cauterisation of ulcers. 

Sphere of action 

  • It acts majorly on nervous system and GIT.




Constitution 

  • Best adapted to hysterical nervous person, having carbo nitrogenoid or hydrogenoid constitution. 
  • Withered, old looking young person. 
  • Having history of unusual continuous mental exertion. 
  • Progressive emaciation is well marked, especially of the lower extremities. 

Guiding symptoms +keynotes 

  1. A/F : Apprehension, fear, mental stress, eating cold, sweet (ice-cream) and salty things.
  2. Diarrhoea sets in due to great apprehension, especially when getting ready for church, opera, examination etc.
  3. Sensation of a splinter or hair in the throat when swallowing.
  4. Desire for sweet (cina, lyco., sulph., bry.), and salt (carbo veg., nat. mur., phos.).
  5. Urine passes unconsciously day and night (caust.).
  6. Coition is painful in both sexes, followed by bleeding from vagina. 
  7. Ophthalmia neonatorum in young infants who contacted gonorrhoea during passage through the birth canal. 

Mind / nervous system 

  • A/F : Apprehension, fear, mental stress.
  • Diarrhoea sets in due to great apprehension, especially when getting ready for church, opera, examination etc.
  • A useful remedy for examination funk (aeth., gels.). 
  • Due to loss of memory, he can not find the right words at a time, leads to faults in speech.
  • Can not walk with closed eyes, tendency to fall sidewards due to vertigo. 
  • Great fear of projecting buildings on narrow street corners, which creates a sensation as if it would fall over him. 
  • From highted places he gets impulse to jump down from there.
  • Feels as if a cloud hung over him.
  • Epilepsy : A/F - fear, fright, stress, during menstruation. 
  • Pupils get dilated for a day or two before the attack. 

Head

  • It may be of a gastric origin or a nervous headache. 
  • A/F : same as guidings. 
  • L : frontal eminence. 
  • S : congestion with a sense of expansion, and feels screwing pain in frontal eminence. 
  • M : aggravation - mental stress, during menstruation. 
  • Amelioration - pressure or tight bandage. 

Eyes

  • A/F : eye strain. 
  • Granular conjunctivitis : scarlet red, profuse, muco-purulent discharge. 
  • Ophthalmia neonatorum - profuse purulent discharge with ulceration.

Throat

  • Inflammation with thick mucus in the throat which leads to rawness and hawking. 
  • Chronic laryngitis of singers, high notes causes cough.
  • Sensation of a splinter or hair in throat.

G. I. T. 

  • A/F : craving of sugar, salts, and Nervous affections. 
  • Belching / Eructation accompanies most gastric complains.
  • Belching after every meal, with violent sound and smell.
  • Burning and ulcerating pain in stomach region, which radiates around the abdomen.
  • Diarrhoea : may be due to nervous ailment or by gastro intestinal disorders. 
  • Sensation : as if the abdomen would burst with the gas. 
  • Character of stool : with green mucus, like chopped spinach, turning green after remaining on diaper. 

Urinary system 

  • Urine passes unconsciously day and night (caust.). 
  • Character of urine : dark, scanty. 
  • Dribbling. 

Male

  • Impotence. 
  • Erection fails when coition is attempted. 
  • Painful coition. 

Female

  • Sensation of a splinter in uterus, especially when walking or riding. 
  • Uterus bleeds easily, due to haemorrhage. 
  • Painful coition. 

Modalities 

  • Aggravation : sugar, salt, cold food, ice-cream, unusual mental exertion.
  • Amelioration : open air.
