Respiratory system +

• A/F : cold weather, sweets, tobacco, suppressed gonorrhoea, mental excitement. 
• Awakens in a fright and feels as if suffocating, as if had to breath through a sponge. 
• Dryness prevalent throughout the respiratory system. 

• Throat : stitching pain in the throat due to Dryness of the mucous membrane.
• Patient needs to clear his throat frequently.

 

• Cough / asthmatic cough : Dry, barking (dros.), croupy, wheezing, whistling.
• Coughing reflex sounds like a saw driven through a pine board.
• Useful in asthmatic cough also. 
• Aggravation : midnight, mental excitement, talking, during inspiration. 
• Amelioration : warm drinks and foods.

Glands

• Spongia causes enlargement and hardness of glands especially acts on thyroid and testes. 
• Goiter : Thyroid glands swollen even with chin. 
• Suffocating paroxysm at night. 
• Patient Awakens in a fright and feels as if suffocating.
