Introduction

  • Silicea is also called as "surgeon's knife", because it is capable of reaching and curing those derangements where the actual knife of the surgeon can not reach.
  • So that its a surgeon's knife in the hands of homoeopath. 
  • It is a pus forming remedy, it promotes and controls suppuration. 
  • It is also capable of removing foreign body lodged anywhere in the human body. 
  • It should not be given to those patient where there is a tubercular focus in lungs, because it can re-establish an inflammation and throw it out. 

Constitution

  • Patient with lean and thin body due to weak and lax muscles.
  • Dry skin with light complexion. 

Guiding symptoms + keynotes

  1. A/F : Bad effects of vaccination (thuja, ant.t.), suppressed foot sweat (psor., Graph., cupr.), difficult assimilation of food in childern. 
  2. Suitable in bad effects of vaccination especially when there is an abscess formation or convulsion. 
  3. Chest complaints of stone cutters, leads to total loss of strength, because they constantly inhale fine stone particles, which develops disease as it is foreign body for us.
  4. Patient is very sensitive to all external impressions, like noise, light, cold etc. (nux v.).
  5. Sensitive : Highly chilly patient, who wraps himself with warm clothing even in hot summer weather (psor., hep.s.)., he takes cold From exposure of feet. 
  6. Difficult assimilation : of food in children leads to malnutrition, low calcium levels, leads to Open fontanelles and sutures, weak ankles, slow in learning.
  7. Injury : Every little injury suppurates (merc.s., hep.s., graph., petr.), old scar becomes painful again.
  8. Obstinate constipation : stool is hard and knotty, when partly expelled, recedes again (thuja.) due to paralytic rectum. 
  9. Headache : severe chronic headache, starts from the occiput, ascending to the vertex and Settles especially on the right eye. > profuse urination (gels.).
  10. Glands : painless swelling of glands. 

Mind

  • Fearful about failures.
  • For example if he is a lawyer, he wears his coat and he is ready to perform, but due to the fear of failure, his lacks the confidence and denies to perform. 
  • But if he performs, he will give his best and will perform with the fullness.
  • Pin mania : thinks only of pins, fears them, searches and counts them.

Head

  • Headache : severe chronic headache, starts from the occiput, ascending to the vertex and Settles especially on the right eye.

GIT

  • Constipation always before and after menses. 
  • Anal fistula alternates with chest complains.
  • Great pain after stool. 

Skin

  • Silicea has capacity to expel foreign bodies from the tissues wherever they may be lodged. 
  • Old scar becomes painful again
  • Unhealthy skin with tendency to suppurate (graph., hep.s., petr.).
  • Long lasting offensive suppuration with fistulous tracts. 
  • Cracks at the end of fingers. 

Baby

  • Scrofulous, rachitic children with large head, open fontanelles. 
  • Much sweating about head (lower than cal.c.).
  • Difficult assimilation leads to malnutrition and slow growth. 
  • Slow in learning. 
  • Consider every points which covers baby including constitution. 

Modalities

  • Aggravation : new moon, cold, during menses. 
  • Amelioration : warmth, wrapping up the head. 

Relations

  • Complementary : thuja, puls. 

Extras

  • Silicea is the most complementary of puls, As pulsatilla flower grows well on sand.
